10 Myths about Legionnaires Disease
1.
Not using a storage tank or replacing the hot
water with an instant water heater will prevent the contamination. The water
lines will remain with bacteria and all the problem in the piping would remain
the same.
2.
Most Legionella outbreaks originate in building
heating and cooling systems. This is not true, warm water temperatures provide
the ideal growth for the bacteria.
3.
Legionnaires disease is difficult and expensive
to control. False. It can be easily controlled my maintaining the water
temperatures above or below the ideal Legionella Bacteria growth rate. If you
are diagnoses with Legionnaires disease it can be treated with antibiotics.
4.
You cannot get Legionella from a shower head.
This is not true. The disease can be transmitted to a person by contaminated
water droplets from an unclean water source.
5.
A high temperature flush is an inexpensive and
effective way of sterilization. You would
have to get a temperature high enough to draw 160 degrees throughout the whole
system although this is only a temporary cure.
